Devineni Nehru, five time MLA and an ex-minister in the NTR government passed away in the early hours of Monday. He was 64. Nehru was admitted in Care hospital in Hyderabad. He was undergoing treatment for his kidney ailment He was discharged from the hospital and was planning to return to Vijayawada. Nehru complained of chest pain and had a massive cardiac arrest and declared dead by the doctors after he was brought to the hospital. He was survived by his wife, a son and a daughter .Nehru's original name was Rajasekhar. But he was popular as Nehru. Nehru entered politics by joining TDP in 1983. A staunch and hardcore loyalist to NTR he remained with NTR after a split in the party after Chandrababu Naidu revolted against NTR and in the coup that ensued Babu grabbed power from NTR . Nehru joined Congress and contested the election in 1999 but lost the election. but he won the election in 2004 but again lost the election in 2009 and 2014. After joining Congress initially he was not comfortable with Y S Rajasekhar Reddy but after sometime be has become loyal and trustworthy to both Congress and YSR. He never aspired for power and openly used to admit that he will never lobby for a berth in the cabinet. He had a long tussle with the Vangaveeti family and after the murder of Vangaveeti Ranga in 1988 which saw violence, arson, looting and burning of properties that was never witnessed in Krishna and neighboring districts has surrendered to the police on the advice of NTR. Nearly 40 people were killed and property worth thousands of crores was lost. He came out free after the court acquitted him along with 30 other people in the Ranga murder case. In the aftermath of bifurcation and after severe jolt to the Congress party Nehru once again along with his followers and his son Avinash joined TDP. He called it historic and homecoming for him. He used to say that he wished to see his son actively involve in the district politics and carve a niche for himself and TDP was the right platform to achieve it. But before he could realise his dream he passed away. Chief Minister Chandrababu expressed shock and disbelief at the untimely and sudden death of Nehru. Leaders belonging to all political parties expressed their deep sorrow and condoled his death.
