Kotesu was a woodcutter. He used to cut wood from the nearby forest and sell it in the nearby weekly market. One day he was taking the wood to the market on his pushcart. The wood is longer than the normal size and he has to shout to make way for his cart to move on. Venkatesu was a rich man but was a miser. Every week he used to visit the market and exploit the gullible village folk by his crooked tricks. He saw Kotesu coming that way shouting to give space for his cart.He deliberately stood in the way as the pushcart passed him. Unfortunately his clothes got tangled with the wood and were torn. Immediately he stopped Kotesu and demanded for compensation. Kotesu pleaded innocence and said he was shouting loudly for space. As Venkatesu failed to make way for space his clothes were torn. Venkatesu ignoring his pleas demanded for the entire stock of wood in the cart. Else he will lodge a complaint with the village head. As Kotesu was reluctant to pay him Vekatesu took him to the village head. The village head aware of the cunning ways of Venkatesu was waiting for an opportunity to punish him. After hearing from Venkatesu about the complaint the village head asked Kotesu to give his narration about the incident. Kotesu remained silent for every question he was asked. The village head said it seems Kotesu was deaf and dumb and found fault with Venkatesu for lodging a complaint. Venkatesu raged with anger told the village head that Kotesu was at the shrillest of his voice was shouting for space and from a distance everybody could listen it. The village head immediately stopped Venkatesu and told him since he heard Kotesu's voice clearly and failed to give space for the cart to move on it was his fault. And penalised Venkatesu for falsely trying to fabricate an innocent person and warned him to mend his ways.
