The midnight meetings of rival factions of AIADMK on Monday hasn't brought much cheer to the two factions of former CM O Panneerselvam and present CM E Palaniswami. OPS as he is fondly called wants Sasikala and her nephew T T Dhinakaran be removed from the key posts of general secretary and deputy general secretary. Party leaders are crying for the removal of Dhinakaran as he is causing disrepute to the party. The precondition of the merger is to continue Palaniswami as CM but make OPS the party general secretary and make E Madhusudhanan the presidium chairman of the party, the post he is holding earlier. The re-merger of the two factions has the support of majority of the 134 legislators of AIADMK. But there were 20 to 25 staunch loyalists of the Sasikala camp who are not in favour of the re-merger of the two groups. As the EC has freezed the two leaf symbol party loyalists opine that by coming together the party can retain the symbol, the lifeline and pride of the party. Will the two factions forget the bitter and pitched battles played together recently and save the party in its bitterest crisis since its inception is a thousand dollar question.
